SOFPOG Welcomes New Family Medicine Residents at 2026 Introductory Course
The Society of Family Physicians of Ghana (SOFPOG) has welcomed a new cohort of Family Medicine residents during the 2026 Family Medicine Introductory Course held at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital.
As part of the engagement, the President of SOFPOG, Dr Baaba Damoah, accompanied by the Organizing Secretary, Dr Ken Amaniampong, interacted with the new residents and provided an introduction to the Society and its work.
The residents were briefed on the aims and objectives of SOFPOG, its activities, professional engagement opportunities and its broader role in promoting and strengthening Family Medicine and primary healthcare in Ghana. The session also highlighted the importance of professional association and active participation in the development of Family Medicine throughout residency and beyond.
SOFPOG serves as an important professional platform for Family Physicians, facilitating learning, collaboration, advocacy, networking and continuous professional development. Through its programmes and activities, the Society continues to contribute to the advancement of the specialty and to the delivery of comprehensive, coordinated and patient-centred healthcare.
The engagement with the new residents underscores SOFPOG’s commitment to supporting the next generation of Family Physicians as they begin their specialist training. Residency is an important period of professional growth, requiring dedication, resilience, continuous learning and a strong commitment to patient care.
Training centres were given copies of A Woman’s Guide, a book on Women’s Health by Dr Barbara Entsuah, a consultant family physician.
SOFPOG warmly welcomes the new residents into the Family Medicine community and encourages them to take advantage of opportunities for learning, mentorship, professional networking and participation in the activities of the Society.
The Society wishes all the new residents every success during their residency period and looks forward to witnessing their growth as skilled, compassionate and committed Family Physicians who will contribute meaningfully to healthcare in Ghana.
