SOFPOG’s 10th Anniversary Panel Discussion: A Catalyst for Healthcare Transformation

The Society of Family Physicians of Ghana (SOFPOG) marked its 10th anniversary with a momentous panel discussion on “Strengthening Primary Care for Universal Health Coverage.” Held at the Zero Room, Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, on Tuesday, 14th May 2024, the event brought together a diverse array of healthcare professionals, policymakers, and stakeholders.

Dr. Mrs. Alberta Adjebeng Biritwum-Nyarko, Director of PPME of the Ghana Health Service, on behalf of the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, set the stage with an insightful keynote address, emphasizing the pivotal role of primary care in achieving universal health coverage. Joined by esteemed panelists including Prof Dr. (med) Akye Essuman, Dr. Lawrence Ofori-Boadu, and Dr Salamatu Nantogma, the discussion explored strategies to enhance primary care accessibility, affordability, and effectiveness.

Key themes addressed included the need for a comprehensive network of primary care providers, integration of primary care into broader healthcare systems, and overcoming challenges in transforming care delivery.
