SOFPOG SCIENTIFIC MEETING 2023
The Scientific Session of the AGSM was held on Friday 19th May , 2023 at the Conference room of the Elmina Beach Resort and also streamed on zoom.
The Chairman for the occasion was Dr Gerhard K. Ofori-Amankwah, a Consultant Family Physician at Nyaho Medical Centre.
The Program started off at 2:15pm with a presentation by Prof Antwi-Agyei from KNUST on Grant Writing.
He highlighted the best approaches to writing grants for research purposes and encouraged Family Physicians to take special interest in research as they are most of the time the first point of call in the health care setting.
Dr Daniel Darko ,a Family Physician at the Nyaho Medical Centre presented an Abstract on QUALITY OF DIABETES CARE IN A FAMILY MEDICINE TRAINING FACILITY IN ACCRA, GHANA: A CLINICAL AUDIT.
Dr Chinedu Dike, a resident in Family Medicine from Enugu, Nigeria, presented an Abstract on CURRENT TRENDS IN THE MANAGEMENT OF DIABESITY IN AFRICA: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW.
There was a presentation by AstraZeneca on Forxiga and it’s benefit to patients with Heart failure.
Dr Roberta Lamptey, a consultant Family Physician presented her abstract on BEYOND GLYCAEMIC CONTROL; IMPROVING CARDIO RENAL OUTCOMES IN T2D MANAGEMENT IN LOW RESOURCE SETTINGS and this was followed by a presentation by Dr Francis Addai on PREVALENCE AND POST-SURGICAL OUTCOMES OF ORTHOPAEDIC PATIENTS WITH HYPERTENSION AND DIABETES; A SINGLE SITE STUDY IN GHANA.
Dr Alexander Adjei, a Fellow in training in Family Medicine (Palliative Care) rounded off the abstract presentations with IMPACT OF POINT-OF-CARE RAPID DIAGNOSTIC TEST ON ANTIBIOTIC PRESCRIPTION IN PRIMARY HEALTH CARE SETTINGS IN TWO PERI-URBAN DISTRICTS IN GHANA.
Panelists and audience shared thoughts and offered inputs on the various topics presented.
This event served as a good learning point for Family Physicians with special emphasis on the need to carry out and publish research.
